The Kench family going into Wayside from the Preston Road.
From the left, Miss Mary Kench, Donald Kench pushing Jane Smith in the wheel chair, watched by Fred Kench. Miss Kench, daughter of Thomas Kench, was born in 1885. Donald was the only son of Fred and Maude Kench, he later joined the family firm. Fred Kench, Mary's brother, built Wayside in 1928 and ran, with his brother George, the family building firm established by their father. Jane Smith was the Tyrrell's Aunt Jane and lived in Cedar Cottage at the bottom of Blacksmiths Lane. Donald was born in the early 20s, and looks to be a teenager, so this may be taken about the late 1930s.
