The members of The Foresters, some in full regalia and on horseback, are photographed on the north steps up to the front door at Eydon Hall on Whit Monday, their “Feast Day” around the turn of the century (19th/20th).

The Foresters was a Friendly Society set up to support members in ill health with sick pay and funeral grants with all paying a modest weekly subscription – a forerunner of the N.H.S. The members met regularly in the Club Room in the large outbuilding along the roadside at the Royal Oak and on Whit Monday each year their Feast Day was celebrated with a parade around the village followed by dinner in the clubroom and with sports in a field across the road in the afternoon.
