Pettifers famous 'Green Oil', still sold as a veterinary antiseptic dressing and liniment for sprains, bruises etc.
This is a late bottle, possibly post war, maybe as late as the 1960s. Originally developed by Thomas Pettifer in Eydon in the 1840s, it had a herbal base and Thomas used to boast that he made 'eleven pence halfpenny profit out of every shilling sold'. Thomas' son Steven Pettifer started a rival business in Crudwell, in Wiltshire also selling Green Oil until ordered, after a court case, to trade under his own name.
