Louisa Abbott, the eldest of two surviving children of William and Sarah Alice Abbott was born in Eydon in 1868.

We know very little about William Abbott, a labourer born in Long Itchington (or Dodford records vary) but Sarah (born 1845) was an Amos, a long established village family. Louisa’s childhood was spent in part of “Wayside”, now 12 School Lane at Eydon, later moving to the cottage on the corner, now 2 Lime Avenue. Louisa had a younger brother William, 12 years her junior, but she had lost another brother Charles, when she was 15. At the age of 20 she married Alfred James Gubbins on Christmas Eve in 1888.
