A sight that must have been repeated weekly (traditionally on a Monday) at houses all over the land, as two ladies struggle to hand wring a garment over a precariously balanced tub.
This picture shows Granny Walker (in the white coat) who did laundry and ironing for village families. This was done at the wash-house (on the right in the photo) at 32 High Street (shown on the left). The other lady looks like Lena Cross, who was known for helping with the washing. See also AP013 IB043 and DK002. Granny Walker (Alice Elizabeth) died in 1955 aged 75.
