Taken between late 1915 and 1919 Harold Kench was the third son of Thomas and Alice Kench, born in Eydon in 1893.

In 1911 he was a jeweller's apprentice and volunteered for the Army in late 1915. He served in Royal Army Medical Corp. and his seen here with appropriate cap badges. During his service he was awarded the Military Medal. The Military Medal was the 'other ranks' equivalent to the Military Cross and was awarded for bravery in the field. Unfortunately, the citation for Harold Kench has not been found, so will not know what he did to deserve it, but as a stretcher bearer, there would be a constant need for bravery. Died in in Banbury in 1976, aged 83.
