George Edden with Thomas Pettifer's cart. 
The photograph was taken in the road outside Fir Hill Farm (15 Hill View). Pettifers manufactured animal medicines and George was employed by them to grow herbs in various fields around the village and to cart them to be dried in the "spice house" on the Woodford Road (near Amos's Garage). The photo was said to be taken in the 1930s but as George Edden was born in 1881, he looks nearer to 30 to 40 than 50 in this photo so maybe it was taken earlier.
