This pre-war photograph, the date of which is uncertain, shows Val Harding at Culworth Forge with blacksmith Mr Gascoigne and two other men. 
The Gascoignes were well known as blacksmiths in South Northamptonshire, in the 1911 census Mark aged 46, Thomas aged 54 and his son William aged 16 were all employed at Culworth and there were other Gascoigne blacksmiths in Helmdon, Sulgrave and Moreton Pinkney. Thomas Gascoigne is on the far left with Val next to him. Photographer unknown.
