Foresters' Banner, c1932

The Blakesley Silver Band leads the Foresters round the village in their parade on Whit Monday. John Howard (in bowler hat) is in front of the magnificent banner which is carried by Uriah Edwards. He looks to be struggling under the weight of the banner. Uriah, who was dressed in the full Foresters fur-trimmed uniform, died the following Spring. The boy in the cap behind Uriah is Ernie Castle who lived down the High Street at number 9. He and his father Percy worked on the railways at Woodford. and the girl at edge of road is Iris Edwards, who was daughter of Mrs Ethel Edwards (DK008) and was Uriah Edwards great niece.
