Sid Edwards was clearly a very good gardener, as seen from this picture of Fernlea in the 1960s or 70s, absolutely covered in roses.
This may be the source of those wonderful bouquets at his daughters' weddings, and would explain why he continued to work as a garden at Eydon Hall after he had retired from other work.
