A photo of “Dodds Manor Farm” (22 High Street) taken around 1965.

Up to the beginning of the 20th century this was the other bakery in the village (as opposed to 44 High Street DK146). The ovens were at the far end of the building, above which is the loft door on the first floor which had a hoist to lift the sacks of flour up.

The original front door has now been replaced by a window but the loft door was still in position (replaced since then by a window). The property had no name until named “The Homestead” in the early 1950s but changed later in the 1950s to “Dodds Close” after the name of George Dodd who was a tenant of the smallholding in the early 1920s. The name was further changed to “Dodds Manor Farm” after the then owner purchased several fields in the 1990s which had formed part of Manor Farm. Photographer Mr David Kench
