Like many villagers, Sid would have  been involved in the village fete.

This image shows Sid, on the left, smoking a pipe, with Percy King next to him, but who is holding the piglet (is it Frank Parish?) and who is the younger man in the hat? And why are they holding the pig?

Well, there was a popular game at garden parties and fetes of bowling for pig, where skittles would be set up and the best score of the afternoon won a pig(let). That might have been a welcome prize when everyone had a pigsty in their back garden, but these days... perhaps not.
