A dose of Pettifers' cattle drench, still with its original paper and string wrapping. Instructions are to mix the drench with one and a half pints of boiling ale, add a pint of vinegar and, when cool, drench the cow after milking!

The label, Thomas Pettifer and Co, with the registered Red Cross trade mark, suggests a date between 1883 and circa 1920. In which case, the unit price of one shilling (or 10/- a dozen)was worth about £3 a dose today.
