Digging Through the Snow, 1958
Before the availability of 'cheap' and mobile mechanical diggers such as JCBs on the farm, digging out the roads from the village when blocked by snow meant hard work by all the available men with shovels.
This group here - from the late 1950s - from the right, Fred Phipps, Fred Leadbeater, Charlie Parish (and part of Tut Tompkins). Fred Phipps was married to Charlie's daughter Joan whilst Tut Tompkins was her uncle.
