Colour Postcard by District View Publishing Company of Leicester showing bottom of School Lane and the Green with the Cross Tree

The ancient elm tree on the Green, has now been chopped down owing to disease and age, and replaced by a Holm oak; the wooden fencing and gate at entrance to Wakelyn Manor House up to the 1950s have since been removed. The  tree was widely known as the “Cross Tree”. For this view at the end of the 19th century, see DK060.
